Girls Tryouts

Girls Lacrosse Tryouts — NH, MA, ME & VT | 2026–27 Season

4 Leaf Lacrosse girls tryouts for the 2026–27 season are open to players in graduation years 2028 through 2038 across New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and Northern Massachusetts. The girls program operates with its own dedicated coaching staff, its own Director of Girls Lacrosse, and its own evaluation process, one designed to identify not just the most skilled players in the region, but the most coachable and committed ones.

Girls lacrosse in Northern New England has grown significantly in recent years. Competition for 4 Leaf roster spots is real — which is why every player, new or returning, goes through the same two-step process.

Open Tryouts are followed by Call Back Tryouts at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH, where final roster decisions are made.

How 4 Leaf Girls Tryouts Work — A Fair, Two-Stage Process

Every player goes through the same process — no exceptions for returning players, no guarantees based on prior seasons. The two-step format exists to give every athlete a fair regional evaluation and to build teams that represent all of New England, not just the players who live closest to any one facility.

STEP 1
Open Tryouts — Evaluated Close to Home

Four locations across New England. Attend one — or more if you choose. Open Tryouts are an initial evaluation only. They give our staff a first look at players across all regions and determine who is invited to Call Backs.

STEP 2
Call Back Tryouts — One Field, One Standard

Invited players from all states compete together at Phillips Exeter Academy. This is the final stage where roster decisions are made. Both steps are required — Open Tryouts alone do not determine selection.

2026 Open Tryout Schedule — Girls Dates, Locations & Grad Years

What Girls Evaluators Are Looking For

Our girls coaching staff evaluates the full player — not just stick skills. The 4 Leaf girls program specifically values players who can elevate the people around them, not just those who can create individually.

On-field evaluation — girls

  • Athletic ability — footwork, field awareness, speed in transition
  • Fundamentals — catching, throwing, cradling, ground ball tenacity
  • Lacrosse IQ — positioning, off-ball movement, draw knowledge, communication
  • Position reads — attack finishing, midfield two-way play, defensive positioning, goalie technique
  • Draw circle awareness — for eligible grad years, draw competency is a specific evaluation area

Our Girls Coaching Staff

The girls program is led by our Director of Girls Lacrosse and a coaching staff with collegiate playing and coaching backgrounds. This is a dedicated girls staff! Players at girls tryouts will be evaluated by coaches who coach girls lacrosse full-time within the 4 Leaf system.

Why Families Choose 4 Leaf Girls Lacrosse

Girls lacrosse club options in Northern New England have expanded in recent years. At 4 Leaf, the girls program is built and run independently from the boys with its own staff, its own recruiting structure, and its own development philosophy.

  • 120+ training opportunities per year — more than any other club in Northern New England
  • Year-round regional training in NH, ME, VT, and Northern MA — no weekly long drives
  • Two teams per graduation year — competitive depth and genuine roster accountability
  • Three dedicated college recruiting coaches — built into every season, not an add-on
  • Tournament practices scheduled on-site the night before — equal prep for all players
  • Multi-sport athlete friendly — we build schedules around real family life
  • 501(c)(3) nonprofit — mission first, not profit first

Girls College Recruiting Support

College recruiting for girls lacrosse has become highly competitive. 4 Leaf has three coaches dedicated to the recruiting process — all working with a Director of Recruiting who builds individualized plans for every athlete. We help girls identify academic and athletic fits across D1, D2, and D3 programs.

Frequently Asked Questions — Girls Tryouts

Do players need to attend all four Open Tryout locations?

No. Players must attend at least one Open Tryout location. You can choose whichever location is most convenient — Amesbury MA, Hooksett NH, Williston VT, or Portland ME. Players may also attend multiple Open Tryout locations if they wish.

Do returning 4 Leaf players still need to try out?

Yes. All players — new and returning — go through the same two-step tryout process each season. There are no guaranteed spots based on prior participation. This ensures every roster is built on current performance and keeps the program's competitive standard high.

What happens if my child attends Open Tryouts but is not invited to Call Backs?

Open Tryouts are an initial evaluation only and do not guarantee roster placement or a Call Back invitation. If your athlete is not invited to Call Backs, our coaching staff can provide general feedback on next steps. Families with specific questions should contact fitzgerald@4leaflax.org directly.

What grad years are eligible to try out?

4 Leaf fields teams for graduation years 2028 through 2038 — covering approximately 2nd grade through 12th grade.

Can my child try out even if they play for another club?

Yes. The tryout process is open to any player who meets the graduation year requirements. You do not need prior 4 Leaf experience. Many players come from town programs, other clubs, or no prior travel team experience at all.

What should my child wear and bring to tryouts?

Full girls lacrosse gear is required. Stick, goggles, gloves, mouthguard, and cleats. Bring a water bottle. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to check in with the coaching staff.

What if we have a serious scheduling conflict with Call Backs?

Contact us in advance — not after the fact. We handle scheduling conflicts on a case-by-case basis and alternative evaluations are not guaranteed. Email fitzgerald@4leaflax.org as early as possible if you have a conflict.

When are tryout results announced?

Results are communicated after Call Back Tryouts are complete. Players who attended Call Backs will hear from the coaching staff regarding roster decisions. We do not announce results publicly.

Is the girls program separate from the boys program?

Yes — entirely. The girls program has its own coaching staff led by our Director of Girls Lacrosse, its own evaluation process, and its own college recruiting approach. Boys and girls share the same tryout venues and some training facilities, but the programs are run independently.

My daughter plays goalie — how is she evaluated at tryouts?

Goalies receive dedicated evaluation from coaches familiar with the position. We look at technique, footwork, communication, and competitive composure. Goalie spots are not automatically awarded — they go through the same two-step evaluation as every other position.
